The holidays are upon us! From snow-covered mountains and cozy town-centers to historical and charming cities, there may be no better backdrop to celebrate the season of giving than New England. Craft fairs, parades, and performances abound this time of year. Let’s take a look at some of the local events that have caught our eyes.
Thanksgiving Farm Fare
Keene, November 22-23
A long-standing tradition, Thanksgiving Farm Fare at Stonewall Farm provides all the ingredients needed for a holiday celebration and then some. Fresh, local turkeys, meats, vegetables and cheeses, and ready-to-eat meals will be up for grabs. Plus, pottery, ornaments, and artisan gifts will be available for purchase as well. Cockail and mocktail demonstations will take place on Friday evening along with a toasty fire outside and there will be cooking demonstrations on Saturday.
Turkey Scavenger Hunt
Merrimack, November 23
Find turkeys, win a turkey! The Merrimack Parks & Recreation Department will be hiding 12 turkey-shaped cutouts throughout the town as part of its annual Turkey Scavenger Hunt. The first three participants to return to Wasserman Park with all 12 stamps completed will win a 16-pound Thanksgiving turkey. All participants must be pre-registered and will meet at 10:00 a.m. at Wasserman Park in front of the Parks & Recreation Office.
Festival of Trees
Plaistow, November 29 – December 1
Head over to the Plaistow Fish and Game Club for a weekend of Christmas spirit. Along with the display of trees, a craft fair will be running during all three days of the event. There will be breakfast with Santa, holiday stories, Santa’s workshop, caroling for children, a snack bar, and many special visits from Santa. Plus, the beautiful trees and wreaths on exhibit will be raffled off at the end of the weekend!
Nutfield Holiday Celebration
Derry, November 30
Derry will be in full holiday mode come November 30. The Nutfield Holiday Parade, Holiday Stroll, Very Derry Holiday Kids’ Activities, Festival of Trees, and Tree Lighting will all take place that day! The parade, themed Celebrations through the Years, will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by the Downtown Holiday Stroll from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Also taking place during that timeframe will be the kids’ activities and the Festival of Trees. Carolers will be singing at 5:30 p.m., preceding the 6:00 p.m. tree lighting!
Merrimack, Thursday through Sunday beginning November 15
Beginning November 15, the Budweiser Brewery will be brimming with holiday magic. A family-friendly event, more than a million lights will twinkle on the brewery grounds this season. This is a free event, though due to limited space parking is $5 in advance or $10 at the gate.
Loudon, November 28 – January 5
Londonderry, December 5

Backyard Brewery Winterfest
Manchester, December 6
What says “Welcome, winter” like an outdoor brew fest? Backyard Brewery will kick off the season with Southern New Hampshire’s holiday beer festival. Taking place on the patio and spilling into the parking lot, the beer and mead will be flowing for those willing to brave the cold! Tickets are $30 and include 4 oz. pours from the more than 15 participating breweries and a commemorative tasting glass. This is a 21+ event.
German Christmas Market
Amherst, December 7
No need to hop on a plane to experience Europe at Christmastime. The town of Amherst is bringing a taste of Germany to New Hampshire on December 7, from 12:00 to 7:00 p.m. for its second annual German Christmas Market. The Wigwam Museum and Middle Street will transform into a festive scene featuring arts and crafts, hot drinks including mulled wine (a European specialty), food, decorations, lights, music, and more!
Portsmouth, December 7-8, 14-15, 21-22
On weekend evenings beginning December 7, the Strawbery Banke Museum will bring visitors to holidays past. The grounds will glow with hundreds of lighted candle lanterns. The houses will be adorned with thousands of hand-made decorations crafted from live greens and dried flowers and herbs collected from the museum gardens. And, the air will be filled with the sound of holiday music and the scent of woodsmoke from the bonfire. Skip the line and save $5 on tickets when you purchase them prior to December 1.
Londonderry, December 8
Gather your kids, gather your pets—Santa Claus is coming to Infinity Realty Group! From 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., the man in red will be at our office taking photos with visitors.
The Great Candy Cane Hunt
Londonderry, December 13
Grab your flashlight and head over to YMCA of Greater Londonderry to search for hidden candy canes! Guests can start with decorating a candy cane bag and sipping on hot cocoa by the fire pit. Then, the hunt for candy canes is on! Additional activities include winter carnival games, letters to Santa, and pictures with Santa. The cost is $5 per person.
Christmas at Hogwarts
Portsmouth, December 16-17
Searching for a little Christmas comedy? Look no further. Visit the Seacoast Rep for a completely improvised and satirical comedy show featuring a Harry Potter theme. This magical adventure will feature a mix of mystical creatures, whimsical spells, dangerous secrets, and holiday joy.
Boston Pops Holiday Concert
Manchester, December 21
One of the most popular seasonal traditions in New England, the Boston Pops will be in town on December 21 spreading holiday cheer with their upbeat sounds. It will be a performance filled with holiday music favorites, the traditional Pops sing-along, and a visit from Santa Claus himself!
